Teal, Pink & Orange

Those are the colors I asked for in my [3x6] Sampler Mini Quilt Bee. After I made my block I had second thoughts about those colors, but I am SO happy with the blocks I received and really love how they turned out! :)

Aren't they fun! I think they go great together and love how bright and different they all are. :) It makes me want to do my block over in prints instead of solids so it's not so bold. :)

see? ;)

I originally planned on using them to make a car quilt, you know, so when I get in the car on those cold days I'll have something to keep me warm while the hubby has the a/c blowing. haha. It's not that bad, but still, always something on my "one day" list of things I'd like. :) I think I just might still do that... one day. ;)

Thanks ladies! I had a blast! :)

oh, and I uploaded some pictures in my video tutorial post, so you can see the block that I make in the tutorial, as well as the inspiration block for it all. :)

Mouthy Stitches Swap!

Mouthy Stitches

Mouthy Stitches is a fun flickr group for swapping zippy pouches! We got our secret partners last week and I'm super excited! :) (I love pouches!!) I decided to go ahead and sketch up some ideas so I don't forget and get stuck with nothing. :) Here's what I'm thinking...

Mouthy Stitches pouch idea: "Mushroom Patch"
"Mushroom Patch"
A flat pouch big enough for some scissors and pens and other supplies. I'm thinking of doing a few little mushrooms in the corner, and some stars coming out at the top.

Obviously I can't show you my partner's inspiration mosaic that somewhat inspired this, but I sure to hope that she'll like it. :)

I love "having to" come up with something for someone else. It pushes me to be creative and go beyond my normal complacency of just doing whatever I can finish quick. ;) I love it! :)

VIDEO Tutorial: Improv Piecing and Curved Piecing

Yes! I made my first video tutorial! Can you believe it?! It was fun.... and DEFINITELY homemade! ;)  I think figuring out how to export it (file format and all those details), and then uploading it was the hardest part. It took a couple of tries to film it, and then I about cut it in half - editing out all the unnecessary details. I tried to add some comic relief in the boring parts. ;)

Here is the block that I end up making. I used all scraps - so it's not really anything that I'll probably use, but at least you can see how the diagonal and curved piecing turn out. :)

The whole thing was inspired by this block that I made for the Moody Blues 2 Group, and I had a question from Annabella, if I knew of any tutorials on how to do improv. I couldn't think of any, so I just made one up. :)

I made my hubby suffer through the video for some input before publishing it. He actually like it! And he doesn't know very much about sewing. I hope you like it too!! (It's a little long, but even my hubby was surprised when I told him how long it was. So hopefully it will be fast for you.) :)

At least for me it is loading slowly, so I am working on figuring out how to compress it so it will load faster! I'll update this if I can get it fixed. Otherwise, hopefully it will be faster for you.

If you have questions or feedback (or suggestions for making better videos - maybe get an actual tripod?! lol.) please be sure to let me know!! :) I'd love to know what you think! Thanks!

The bee goes buzz buzz in January

So that was NOT going to be the title of my post, but rather, "January Bee Blocks" (boring!). Then I started thinking about this wooden Melissa & Doug bee toy that we have. Mabel loves it! One day I started playing with it with her, having it talk about the busy bumble bee and how it goes buzz buzz. Hunter was ecstatic about that! He started peeking over my shoulder, watching what was going on, and just started laughing and laughing! Then he ran and brought his toys to show the bee, wanted it to follow him everywhere (with me holding it and talking/*buzzing* for it of course). He would have done that for hours. And the next day it was the same thing again. and again. I'll just leave it to say that he didn't let Mabel play with it for a while after that. lol. I just love his laugh.

Anyway, my point is that I have been busy busy. Especially working on my bee blocks! It's been so fun!

I just barely finished my do.Good Stitches blocks. Based off this quilt. SO fun! I love these wonky stars!

I also love all the possibilities with them.

Wouldn't they be cute with some log cabin type block for the center?!

Love the colors too!

I also started up in a Moody Blues 2 Bee group this month. I signed up for it quite a while ago, so it's been a long time waiting for it to get started. There are 12(?) of us, and every month 2 people send out enough fabric and the design for the block they want. We make it and send it back. Pretty simple - especially when all the pieces are already cut out! Yeah! I love not having to cut! ;)

Anyway, Fran is making a red and white quilt using this tutorial - so cute. I had the top and bottom blocks.

Moody Blues 2 - Feb blocks

Annaliese is making a quilt based off this quilt. These blocks were a blast to make! I was sad I didn't have more fabric to use. ;) I think I am really enjoying improve piecing! I will definitely have to do more of that!

Anyway, now I am on to planning my bee stuff for next month! I am in charge for do.Good Stitches, and I have the idea already. I just need to type up the instructions. I am SO excited for it! I also need to figure out what to do for Moody Blues. I think I know, but it's a secret... so it may just have to wait to be shared for a long time.

It's so nice to have an awesome sewing setup! I just might get brave enough to share some pictures! - it's just that good! ;) I am loving it!

All ready already.

Can I just say that I'm kind of embarrassed?! First I'll say that I went to bed way too late last night, woke up WAY too early this morning (no thanks to a certain little boy) and have been pretty out of it all day. Anyway, for some reason somewhere I was trying to type "already" today. I tried "allready" but of course that wasn't right. So I went ahead and wrote "all ready". duh. I don't know where it was so now I can't fix it. I guess I'll just unknowingly feel stupid every time someone reads it. lol.

Anyway, if you find it will you let me know so I can fix my error? Or at least know that when you read it... there is a reason why I wrote it like that and that I really do know that it should be "already".

Oh the things that happen on days like this. ;)

oh, and to add some visual interest to this post, here is the boy that wakes up too early in the morning and likes to tickle me. grrrr. Just ask my sister, I am NOT nice when people wake me up too early. ;) lol. (remember every day in Texas when you would try to wake me up for school?! my arms and legs were flailing every where. lol.)

IMAG0895
I think he is the CUTEST in sweatshirts!!!

And this boy is too funny! He insisted on wearing this hat to the grocery store one day. Not surprised. The first thing he does in the morning when he wakes up is find his baseball hat and sunglasses, or Captan America mask and put them on. (and they don't come off easily). :)

IMAG0909

here are the sunglasses. Where did we get these???

IMAG0933

And this girl. She is just as wacky as the rest of them! She is fast as lightning scooting and rolling all over the floor (especially when she sees something she can't have - like the boys milk, which she is always sneaking drinks from!). And the other day when they were supposed to be sleeping, she was just as crazy in her crib as the boys were running around the room. And that boy above in the sunglasses makes her laugh like NO ONE can! so fun!

IMAG0925
boy do I love this girl!
