Master List of Linky Parties

Photobucket

I never know who has a link up party when, or where. And I know there are a LOT more out there that I don't know about. So, here's my idea:

A Master List of all the linky parties. But instead of my trying to find them all, which would be impossible since I don't know where to look for them, I decided to make a linky page for them! If you host a linky party, will you link it on the day that you have it? I.e. If you post it every Monday, link it under Monday! :)

That way everyone will be able to find it! And those of us with a small number of participants will hopefully be able to get the word out about our parties too! :)

Guidelines:
1. Link to either the main post that explains your linky party, as in your very first post; or if you use labels on your blog, click on the label for your linky and link up that address (that way the most recent post will always show up first), or just to your blog, as we'll need to find the most recent post anyway.
3. For the title, when entering your link, also include what it is for: Finished items, sewing/quilting, UFO's, WIP's, crafts, everything, etc.
2. Please help spread the word about this page so others can come link up their linky parties.
3. Be nice, as always. :)

Here we go! Please only link up in the category/day that fits your linky party.

MONDAY

TUESDAY

WEDNESDAY

THURSDAY

FRIDAY

SATURDAY

SUNDAY

MONTHLY

These will expire in one year. At that time I will post a new page to help clear out all the linky parties that are no longer taking place. :)

What's on Your List???

Lori is becoming my motivation as well as my reminder for all things that have to do with deadlines. lol. ;) I almost forgot about linking up my Pre-Third Quarter list of projects that I want to finish in the next three months. Thanks Lori!! :) (The 2012 Finish-A-Long is happening over at Quilter in the Gap. You can find more details about it here.)

My list is intentionally long. I know I only finished three of my six items in the last quarter, but half is good. And I think if I add a few more items I'll hopefully get a few more items finished. Besides, 3 of the quilt tops are already finished, so although I know they'll take longer than I am planning, they will still be fairly quick. So it here it goes!

1. Rainbow Me Happy Quilt
This is what I decided to name my rainbow quilt I'm making from my charm pack. I think it's fitting especially since the whole point of it is to help cheer up a friend of ours who is really sick. It's so hard when children get sick. I sure hope him and his family are doing well. This is definitely the first project I want to finish up! and quick!

2. Mabels Quilt
This is so ready to be basted and quilted. I'm just a little hesitant and need to practice the design I want to do before I start. SO excited to have this one done. :)

3. Kaeleidoscope Quilt
This quilt is waiting for the back to be pieced. I want to do something fun on the back, otherwise it's really close as well. I started this with the Kaleiodoscope QAL at Don't Call Me Betsy.

4. Candy Land Quilt
This is the do.Good Stitches Quilt from February of this year. Even though it's number 4 on my list, it's a top priority to get it finished! I need to make up 4 more blocks and then I can piece all the blocks together and get this lovely finished. I also want to make a fun back for this that will take a little longer, but hopefully not too long. You can see my tutorial for these blocks here.

5. Moody Blues 2 Quilt
Here are the blocks my bee grouped made for me. Now to finish up the rest. I think this is going to be a beauty! I just need to get it done sooner rather than later.

6.Christmas Advent Calendar (tutorial by Oh Fransson! at Sew, Mama, Sew!)
I think I cut out these fabrics last year... before I had some really cute Christmas fabrics, but I think it should still be cute. EVERYTHING is cut, I just need to sew. Thinking this could be a Christmas in July project. :)

7. Nest Quilt
Kind of a secret project. But I'm putting it on my list to hopefully gain that extra motivation to actually finish it! :)

8. Grouped: 6 Coasters, 3 Mug Rugs
I have a pile of coasters and mug rugs I need to finish. I'm not going to count this one complete until they are ALL finished! Last night I found all my little piles of unfinished projects and these were some of them. I've now put everything in one smallish bin, so hopefully that will help me to more easily pick out something and get it done.

9. Grouped: 9 bags - all must be finished to complete this.
These are in the same scenario as #8. I started these for my Etsy shop, but somedays it's hard to keep making repetitive things. I'm going to try to squeeze in a little bit of sewing on these every time I sit down and they should get finished pretty quick.

And that's it! Kind of a lot, but I think I can definitely make some headway on them. I haven't joined any new bees or swaps, so I think that will definitely be in my favor for being successful as well. I do have other projects in mind that I want to do, but they are all top secret. :)

Now to get ready to go to Waterloo! Our first trip to the "big city" and real stores. lol. ;)
Hope you are having a happy Monday!

Made It: Pineapple Seat Cushion

I've been in need of a seat cushion for my sewing chair for a while now. It's just a fold up chair, so long sessions of sewing aren't the most comfortable. ;) When I saw this AWESOME pillow that Splendorfalls made for the pillow blog party I knew I wanted to try the pattern.

I haven't ever done paper piecing before, so I googled how to do it and found some patterns that I could print out to use for the pattern. (She also includes the pattern she used if you want one a little smaller.) Here's a few How-to links if you are new to paper piecing too:

I think this one is the simplest to follow: http://www.quilterscache.com/StartQuiltingPages/startquiltingthree.html

This one has some real pictures that help if you're more visual (like me):
http://www.stitchersneedle.com/article1009.html

And here is the link where I found the pineapple pattern that I used:
http://quilting.about.com/od/blockofthemonth/ss/pineapple_quilt.htm
{The first page has the template, and also a link to basic foundation piecing. The third page has the how-to piece it.}

I changed up my colors a little, so I wasn't totally copying Splendorfalls but I still wanted to do a rainbow scheme to match my new pincushion. I bound it using the same fabric as in my new scrap basket. I feel like my sewing area really is becoming so coordinated. ;)

Since I found the binding tutorial at Crazy Mom Quilts, I've used it ever since. But there is one change that I found that I am now always going to do as well. I really LOVE how Anita from Bloomin' Workshop does the beginning and end of the binding... it's so smooth, and at least for me, is a LOT easier to get the two ends to match up length wise.

For the back I used some of the leftover scraps to make a little strip for an accent so the back wasn't too plane. This was also the first time I've ever pieced scraps like this before too. I quilted four layers of batting to the back, and added two more when I bound the entire quilt. It's still a little thin, but works well and is comfy. ;)

{don't pay attention to the binding that is coming unstitched in the top left corner. I didn't reinforce the straps on the outside at first, so when I tied them too tight to the chair it kind of pulled the binding off. I just need to restitch that. Oops. ;)}

Pretty much everything about this project was new to me, but boy did I enjoy it!!! The paper piecing took a while, but it was so much fun! I am definitely going to do more of this, and maybe learn how to do my own designs. Wouldn't that be fun?! I definitely recommend trying it out if you haven't yet! :)

Made It: Children's Church Bag, Part 2

Two weeks ago I posted a tutorial on how I made my bags for my boys. (Which of course can be used for a million other things besides church bags. I've even used them already for bags when I didn't want to take everything in my purse. haha.)

But for the intended purpose, here are a few of the things I put in them for church, and a few fun ideas that I haven't put together yet. :) I have a LOT of links to some wonderful ideas, so I hope you have as much fun looking as I did. :)

First of all, I printed out this cute ABC Church Book, from The Idea Door. It was super easy to cut and laminate with my YourStory machine. Then I just punched two holes in one side and used the  Loose Leaf  rings and here's a cute book. :

I think if I were to make one again I would change a couple of the pages to use different words, or maybe different descriptions, but this works and my boys like to look at it. :)

I also made a few manila folder activity folders that I found from this site well, I can't find it, but I know it's somewhere in the links at the bottom. I'll keep looking and update this when I find it. I like it because you can print them out black and white and color them yourself, or print them pre-colored, which I did and saved a LOT of time. :) How easy are these? Super. Print, laminate, cut, add velcro, tape to the folder, and your done! :)

After a bit of use I think I want to make these different too. I think if I can find more churchy stuff (like more bible oriented ones like Noah's Ark) than I would actually make a fabric book out of flannel. When the boys take the velcro off it's kind of loud, and I think if it were simply stuck to flannel it wouldn't be as loud. Plus they wouldn't have to match it up quite as exactly - which also means they'd have a little more freedom to play with them. Here's how I'd do it. Cut out flannel pieces that are two pages across. Trace the basic outlines onto the flannel and draw over them with a fabric marker. Then use crayon to color the pictures in and iron to set the color (I love that idea! so simple!). Make a fabric pocket on the facing page and label the activity. Sew the pages together and your done! :) (I think it would take a little bit more detail to make sure all the pages end up in the right places, but I think it would work pretty well.) The other thing with these books is that the pockets don't work very well. All of our Noah Ark animals are always falling through. It's impossible to keep the pocket taped on when you're always trying to reach in and get the pieces out. See...

I also added a small handmade book for drawing. This was a practice book when I made all the books for the YW's last year - that's why it's pink and my boys are using it. :) On a couple of pages I drew some simple outline pictures for them to color. But mostly they just scribble right now.

That said, I also have some of these WONDERFUL Twistables Colored Pencils in there.
Crayola : Twistables Erasable Colored Pencils, 12 Assorted Colors/pack -:- Sold as 2 Packs of - 12 - / - Total of 24 Each
I love that they are washable/erasable, and if Jackson has a hold of them, we can just turn them down and I don't have to worry about him coloring on anything! I do really want to get the Mini Twistables Crayons though (I didn't know they had those when I bought these). Hunter likes to turn them out too far and then the tips break. I don't think I would have to worry about that with the crayons since they are SO thick!

I do also have another little book I put together. All it is are pictures of Jesus, and a few other pictures that are key to the Gospel, which I laminated, punched holes in and used the rings to hold together. I found these at the Church Distribution Center for very inexpensive, but I know you can also find some of them at Deseret Book. (Both places you can order online if you don't have one nearby).

I really like this, especially while we take the Sacrament, to help them know what we're supposed to be doing while everyone is being so super quiet. :)

Ultimately we're trying to get away from bringing toys or fun stuff to church. We've decided that we want them to learn to be reverent and learn that it's important to be focused on what church is about. The husband is trying to get me to not bring anything, but I think a few things are alright. I think I might actually leave out some of the manilla folders that don't also teach, perhaps come up with some of my own stuff. But until then, here are a few more ideas and places you can go to find great ideas.

And of course when they get old enough to read, we'll add some scriptures in there too. :)

I really like this first book that is all about Jesus (or there is one that is on the Sacrament) - but my boys aren't old enough to read, so I think this will have to wait. (http://www.mormonchic.com/mommy/quiet_books.asp) Plus at this link there are more ideas, like the picture book that I made, a fabric quiet book that is pretty general (not churchy), and a photo book of your baby or family.
