Mother's Day Pillows!

This year was a first for Mother's Day Gifts! I'm sure I've given them before, but this year was kind of unplanned turned into definite and distinct gifts for Mother's Day! It was very fun! I think it was a first for being on time with hand made gifts as well! (except for my MIL, I didn't get the pillow in the mail until Saturday morning. but she did receive it yesterday!) All of this also means the first time ever buying pillow forms! (besides the ones my hubby bought at ikea for our big boring pillows. lol.) :)

Yup! I made pillows!

First, for my mom. When I showed her my block for the Paper Pieced Pattern a Day Garden Party Blog Hop (or however that name goes, I never get it right), she gasped and just told me how much she liked it. I've never really seen her act that extreme toward anything I've made before so I knew I had to make it into something for her.

Potter Roses. Pillow finished at 14" x 14".

When I first made the block I was kind of ho-hum about the fabrics I used for the pot, but I am SO glad I did! They totally scream my mom! I used those same fabrics for the sashing and back of the pillow with some light cross hatching quilting for the sashing only. She loved it! :) It was one of those times where I could see it in her eyes how much she liked it! It was kind of a neat experience for me giving it to her.

For my mother in law, I gave her my "practice run" pattern for the Modern She Made Swap project. I can't ever remember now, but I'm pretty sure I planned on making this for her before I started because I know she loves purple. Neil okayed all the colors for it as well.

I say it was a practice run because I used blocks that I pieced together as well as paper pieced blocks. Unfortunately not all of the points came together perfectly, but I still really like it despite it's imperfections.

I used a natural fabric as well as one with a little bit of brown flecks in it, though you can't really see the difference. All the fabrics are Konas.

I LOVE the quilting on this! This is the backside of the top. All these wavy squares create such a great texture!! I'm tempted to quilt it the same way for my MSMS pillow too, but we'll see. This pillow finishes at 12"x12". I'm going to make my partner's pillow 18"x 18", so just a little bit larger. I sure hope she'll like it.

I even "signed" our names on the back with a little hand stitching. Yikes. That was scary. The thing at the top is supposed to be a heart with 12 in it, for 2012. :)

I think I am definitely getting addicted to pillows!
I can't wait to get started on mine.... soon enough I hope! :)

May is Definitely Celebration Month!

We celebrated one birthday this last week! (Little M is now 1!!!) :) Mother's Day today, (HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL OF YOU WONDERFUL WOMEN OUT THERE! Mother or not!!) Another birthday this week, plus so many in the extended family this month!

Then in the blogging world, there is May Giveaway Day, and did you know that the Blogger's Quilt Festival is coming up at Amy's Creative Side?? I love this one! :)

Amy's Creative Side

Such a low key, no rush, no pressure, link up. It really is the "stroll around, take your time, and admire every beautiful quilt out there" kind of event! Almost just like being at the fair, except online! :) I guess it's more like teleporting to who knows how many state fairs and being able to see quilts all over the world! :) be sure to check it out and get your quilts finished for this weekend! I know what I want to share.... just need to finish. :)

Ok, I'm staying off the computer today and taking it easy! My wonderful hubby let me take a 2.5 hour nap after church today! Wow! was that ever nice?! Made me a yummy dinner and cake pops for dessert. :) Yum! We went for a walk, some family came over! It's been an awesome day! OH! And the Mr. gave a talk at church today! He did an excellent job! He is such an amazing man and I'm lucky to have him in my life! :) I'm so glad to know that he loves me! My little ones also brought home some good surprises for me from church, and of course had lots of hugs and kisses. I love them! They also were able to go participate in a musical number today that all the primary children did during sacrament meeting! They were right in the front, Jacks was kind of hanging over the little wall (what do you call that?) the whole time. I always forget how small he is until I see him with a group like that. Once they were up there, right before they were going to start singing they both waved at me! (ok, maybe I started that one. They were too cute to not to though.) It was fun watching them sing the songs, and Hunter started copying the conductor as she would move her arms to sing louder, he would lift up his hands and copy her. He is so cute!! I think watching them perform is the best part about being a mom EVER! :) It really turned out to be a fantastic day!  Thanks babe! And thanks to everyone! :)

I hope you've all had an amazing day, and especially to the mom's out there (whether literally or figuratively) I hope you all know how special and important you are!!! And that you are definitely loved. :) We would not be what we are today without good mothers! :) Thank you!

Happy Sunshine made from 70's Geese: Now You Can Make One Too! and FLICKR!

70's-Geese-by-Diane-Bohn

If you follow me on Craftsy, then you might already know, but I added another pattern to my shop! Wahoo! :)

70s Geese octogon finish
pattern includes variation for the octagon-finished edges

It is for a 12" block version of the mini I made for DQS12, Happy Sunshine. I forgot that I named the mini and came up with something else for the block name, 70's Geese. It might have just been the colors I used together, but the mini had such an overwhelming 70's feel to it that I couldn't resist the name. Taking pictures of it with Instagram may have also contributed to that. I thought for minute that it might have 70 geese in it, but it doesn't. 32 Geese did not sound like a good name.... more like lame. ;)

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know. :)

oh, AND did you know... that I have a Flickr Group for my blog?????????????

maybe I'm super lame because I've actually had one for a loooong time now. I'm grateful for the 8 members that have joined me! Though I think only two other people have actually posted photos to it. One I invited. So come join me! :) I don't know. I figured I'd mention it again since a few people suggested I make one. :D Thanks! Don't worry if you don't post anything to it. I always forget to put things in it too. :)

I hope you all have an awesome weekend!! :)

W.i.P. Wednesday {5/9/2012}

Wow! I almost forgot that it is Wednesday! I guess I did forget, but thank goodness I remembered! I have a little sneak peak of something to share, and of course I don't want to miss linking up at Freshly Pieced!

I am currently finishing up my practice run for my Modern She Made Swap item. I think I really love it! :)

IMG_4866

I also finally basted my do.Good Stitches quilt, I AM GOING TO FINISH IT!!! Yeah!! :) I don't know if I've ever been so excited to finish something! :) Anyway, I'll show pictures when it actually is finished. :)

I've been making some awesome progress on my Giant Granny Squares quilt too! I LOVE it! Mostly I love working on it! (Like yesterday when we were outside and I was enjoying the shade on our picnic blanket.) That was the perfect time to work on it! I do like how it's looking too. :)

Anyway, it's been a different kind of day today... a few changes in our daily routine. Nothing bad though so I can't complain! But I better be off to quilting while the wee ones are still asleep!

Thanks for stopping by! :)
If you're new to these parts, I hope you'll stop and stay a while!

What are people doing with this???

Look at this!!

My Scrap Attack block on Craftsy is at Number 10!! You guys! I probably totally sound like I'm bragging, but I'm totally not!! More like I'm going to cry I can't believe it!! ;) Thanks to the world out there that likes my block! :)

Now my only question is.... what are people making with it??? I wish there was a way to magically see everyone's creations. (mostly because I'm sure they all look way better than my scrappy block. ;))

p.s. I've got some fun projects I'm working on and I'm SO excited to share them with you... but I'm going to keep working a little longer. sorry the blog is a bit boring around here.... I'll be back soon! :)

oh, and I've been sneaking in some blog reading! You all are SO awesome!! And if you don't read There & Back by Katie, you better start soon! She tuned me in with a little secret she's got coming soon! (go read her blog for an awesome post she wrote just recently and maybe you can figure it out. lol. I just like the post anyway, because I am definitely ready for some enjoyable slow projects!) :D
